NIU Applied Psychology Department is offering two graduation programs;

  1. Regular 4-year BS in Applied Psychology professional program of 120 credit hours over 8 consecutive semesters.
  2. Advanced 5-year BS in Applied Psychology Program with ADCP/ADIOP

  • 12 years of formal education FSc, FA/ A level.
  • Minimum 45% marks at intermediate level or equivalent
  • O levels (in at least 6 subjects) and A levels (with 3 subjects)

With graduation in BS Applied Psychology, students will be able to work in both public and private sectors. They are eligible to apply for various vacancies through Public Service Commission as well as enter competitive jobs at Armed Services and Law Enforcement Agencies. Applied psychology graduates are also often hired by community and non-profit Welfare organizations and research establishments.

After completing 5 year BS with Advanced diploma in clinical psychology, they have more openings as trained Mental Health Professionals in hospitals, clinics, drug rehabilitation centers, shelter homes, special education and emergency services. Private organizations, multinational companies, marketing industries, and banks seek the services of Industrial/Organizational Psychologists to enhance the productivity of their employees. In Punjab Rescue services, Psychology graduates receive a higher preference than other disciplines. In order to practice as a Mental Health Professional, it is essential to get specialized training which is being offered by NIU Applied Psychology Department in its One year Advance Diploma in Clinical Psychology/Advance Diploma in Industrial/Organizational Psychology. Yes, internships and trainings are mandatory in the curriculum of Applied Psychology BS program as well as our Post-Graduate programs. We place our students in various institutions for training such as FMH, Fountain House and Mayo Hospital Rehabilitation Centers. For those specializing in specific areas such as special education, addiction, child welfare, HR, training, family counseling, we provide placements in related institution through our extensive contacts and networks. Psychology Professor Dr. Naumana Amjad is an honorary consultant and trainer for Punjab Rescue Services and Punjab Anti-narcotics Force. We also have special partnership with Allied Marketing, Roshan Rasta Rehab, Pakistan sustainability Network and Grief Directory.

NIU Applied Psychology Department offers One year training based Advance Diploma in Clinical Psychology and Industrial and Organizational Psychology.

NIU Applied Psychology Department has a dedicated course in psychological Assessment with availability of assessment tools covering personality, attitude and Intelligence tests as well as diagnostic tests. For selective large scale batteries of tests we give exposure to the state of the art testing lab of Punjab University, the largest psychological testing facility in the country. NIU Applied psychology department also has access to leadership and Decision making Lab at Punjab University.

NIU Applied Psychologists benefit from international experts as well as Pakistani leading academics and practitioners as visiting faculty and speakers for seminars. A seasoned researcher Dr. Naumana Amjad leads the training in applied and creative research, developing psychological scales and designing trainings. Students are provided teaching internship opportunity with certificates at NIU and Punjab University. Students are given exposure to community initiatives and National and International conferences. We also provide guidance on international scholarships and prepare for available jobs selection process. But it is not all hard work: Field trips and student gathering events are a hallmark of this department. Studying psychology at NIU is exciting and full of new learning and growth. Yes, NUR Center for Wellbeing provides support and counseling for NIU students, faculty and staff. It is also open and free for other universities and for the community at large. It also provides health related advice in nutrition and physiotherapy, yoga and relaxation training.  Applied Psychology department provides professional career guidance services.

The degree equips you with academic and scientific knowledge of theories of human behavior and mind (brain functioning, perception, learning, memory, emotions and cognition) and how it is applied in various areas. Human behavior includes both normal and pathological behavior. Some of the areas covered in BS program are Health Psychology, School Psychology, Clinical Psychology, Organizational Psychology, Social Psychology and Psychopharmacology (for detailed outline of courses see road map in our prospectus). In practical field you will be able to conduct experiments, carry out and present your research, conduct psychological assessment and initial mental health screening. Apart from these educational outcomes, at a personal level you will learn:

Professional certification courses are offered from time to time by leading experts. We are only department offering Family and Marital therapy and Psychological Emergency management certification.
