BS CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGY
PROGRAM OVERVIEW
The mission of program study in psychology department is to advance the understanding of behavioral and cognitive processes pertaining to the complex human psyche. It will lead towards the improvement of quality of life by underpinning the strategic solutions to the individual and societal problems at large. The principle mission is to prepare students at the graduate levels to pursue careers within the areas of human services and clinical settings. This program will inculcate in students the spirit of understanding the basic skills, used in scientific research; the knowledge of psychological nomenclature and concepts, and applications of Psychology in other diverse fields of life.
PROGRAM LEARNING OBJECTIVES
1. To ensure that the students are aware of the nature, origin, history and scope of Clinical Psychology as a modern discipline and its relationship with other sciences.
2. To be aware of the experimental and experimental underpinning of the study of psychology and develop a scientific approach to the subject.
3. To be conversant with the biological, biochemical, psycho-social, and genetic basis of behavior.
4. To be fully knowledgeable about the cognitive, behavioral and personality functioning of the individual: developmentally, interpersonally and socially.
5. To be familiar with the methods it employs for studying (as it is) and changing behavior (as it should be) and the strengths and weaknesses of these methods.
6. To be aware of the moral and ethical implications of psychological theories, procedures and practices. To ensure that psychology is taught as an applied discipline in scientist-reflective.
7. To be able to conceive, design, and conduct small scale research projects and analyze the information and share it with other students.
8. To develop insight and foster personality growth in students through internship.
9. To inculcate the spirit of applying control over unbridled instinctive and impulsive actions, so that they acquire an integrated personality and behave on their rational judgment.
10. To have a working knowledge of the application and the practice of psychology in real life and have all the necessary skills to continue a specialist study later on and achieve professional distinctions.
BS Clinical Psychology is a broad-based, interdisciplinary degree, which gives students an insight into a wide range of basic and social science subjects. This program is developed in line with the government’s new education policy for converting the Bachelors degree into 4 years. The program is comprised of 137 credit hours that are to be completed in a total of 8 semesters. Medium of instruction will be English.
