BS MICROBIOLOGY AND MOLECULAR SCIENCES
WHAT IS BS MICROBIOLOGY AND MOLECULAR SCIENCES?
BS Microbiology and Molecular Sciences (BS MMS) is a four-year undergraduate degree that integrates the study of microorganisms with the molecular mechanisms that control their structure, function, genetics, and interactions. The program emphasizes both classical microbiology and modern molecular biology techniques, preparing graduates for careers in research, diagnostics, biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, and healthcare. The program equips students with theoretical knowledge and practical laboratory skills to understand microorganisms and apply molecular techniques for diagnosis, research, industrial production, and disease control.
OBJECTIVES
The program aims to:
- Develop a thorough understanding of microorganisms and their roles in health, industry, agriculture, and the environment.
- Train students in molecular and microbiological laboratory techniques.
- Prepare graduates for research and innovation in life sciences.
- Promote ethical laboratory practices and biosafety.
- Enable students to apply molecular biology in disease diagnosis and biotechnology.
SCOPE
The BS Microbiology and Molecular Sciences (BS MMS) program offers excellent career prospects in healthcare, biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, agriculture, environmental sciences, food industries, academia, and research. With rapid advances in genomics, molecular diagnostics, vaccine development, and biotechnology, the demand for professionals trained in microbiology and molecular biology is increasing worldwide. The future of BS Microbiology and Molecular Sciences is highly promising due to increasing global demand for professionals in infectious disease control, molecular diagnostics, biotechnology, genomics, and pharmaceutical innovation. Advances in genome sequencing, precision medicine, vaccine technology, and AI-driven biological research continue to expand employment opportunities in both developed and developing countries.
CAREER OPPORTUNITIES
The graduates of the program may pursue their career as Clinical Microbiologist, Molecular Biologist, Research Associate, Biotechnology Scientist, Pharmaceutical Scientist, Food Safety Officer, Environmental Microbiologist, Quality Control Officer, Molecular Diagnostic Technologist, Infection Control Officer, Public Health Laboratory Scientist, Bioinformatics Analyst, and Academic or Lecturer. In the public sector, they are eligible for direct recruitment in gazetted pay scale (BS-17) in Clinical or Managerial Cadre and BS-18 in Teaching Cadre, after their post-graduation
